The Investigation Department is the expert guarantor of pedagogical activity, scientific research and publication activities within the field of crime investigation. As part of the educational process, it belongs to the profiling departments of the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava. Within its activities, the department focuses mainly on the examination and development of theoretical, legal, organizational and management aspects of investigation, handling of evidence and methodologies of criminal investigation. It responds to the current societal needs and requirements of security practice and criminal procedure. In addition to direct academic teaching in the accredited study programmes, the Investigation Department also carries out teaching within specialised police studies, the University of the Third Age and other forms of education carried out mainly in cooperation with the police practice.
In the course of its activities, the Investigation Department closely cooperates with the members of other departments of the Academy of the Police Force, with pedagogical and scientific researchers of other institutions, as well as with police practice at all levels, in particular with departments conducting criminal investigations.
Within the framework of scientific research activities, the department focuses on solving current issues of police and security practice in the field of crime investigation. The department regularly organises scientific-theoretical conferences and participates in solving scientific research tasks of the Academy of the Police Force in Bratislava and external scientific research partners. The results of its scientific and professional activities are presented in its publications (scientific and professional monographs, textbooks, teaching texts, scientific and professional contributions in domestic and foreign journals and proceedings, etc.).
